O SUICÍDIO ENTRE OS POLICIAIS MILITARES NA BAHIA

With high annual numbers around the world, suicide is already considered a relevant public health problem and a clear manifestation of mental illness in the general population. Objective: to characterize mortality from voluntary self-inflicted injuries (suicide) among military police officers in Bahia. Method: cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective, documentary and quantitative research, consisting of 38 deaths by self-extermination of soldiers registered by the Intelligence Operations Command (COInt), of the Military Police of Bahia (PMBA), in the period from 2016 to 2021. The data were analyzed with the aid of the Microsoft Excel® application, presented in tables and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: there was a prevalence of males (92%); soldier (63%), working in the core activity (82%); aged 31 to 40 years (39%); of color/brown race (47%); with 1 - 10 years of service (45%), single marital status (66%). Most of the deaths had firearms as the means used and the place of occurrence was the home. Conclusion: the results reveal the need to expand the production of knowledge on the subject.
