The police, during the pandemic, acquired new functions and continued their work despite the isolation measures. In this context, men and women had their routines affected, accompanied by an emotional charge that could harm the health of these workers. This literature review aimed to present and discuss changes in the police service and their consequences for its workers. It was observed that public safety is not yet seen as essential in incident situations, requiring its inclusion in protocols related to public health. Greater attention to the health of these professionals must be implemented due to the great load of stress experienced by them, and greater investments must be made in relation to training and acquisition of equipment, as well as gender considerations must be foreseen in the adopted measures.
