The article deals with the importance of the method of adapting the intellect to observed things ("adaequatio et intellectus rei"), for the success of military police theory and practice. In order to demonstrate this argument, the authors focus on the two opposing methods (nominalism and radical realism) and point out the incompatibility between them and the needs of the thinking and acting of the Military Police in the final activity. In the sequence, they show that there are certain items of confluence of purposes and potentialities of cooperation between the Brazilian Institute of Public Security (IBSP) and the Military Police, able to protect these corporations from the sequels of the two currents opposed to the one that is natural of that profession.
