a reflections on its applicability in reducing offenses

Abstract

This study reflects about the use of the “situational prevention” tool to reduce crime and disorder. As methodology, it was used an applied research based on the deductive method. Some preventive crime and disorder models are presented, discussing the need of reliable data for the implementation of preventive policing programs. The study points out that situational prevention is an important crime prevention tool, and should be valued by the public security managers. Thus, it is suggested the creation of an online data platform, where implemented actions concerning the subject are organized and available for consult. This secure collection of information would be created for the service of public safety institutions and the community.
